Full Sail is an institute like know other. Located in Orlando, the school specializes in technology, film and media, the money is poured into creating a chic new school for aspiring artists and innovators. Some may be turned down by the very high tuition fees, to the point of calling in the BBB, but no matter, this school really does have it all, focused on keeping up to date with all the latest technology in the business.

If you’re looking to launch a career in music, film, video games, design, or animation, you’ve come to the right place. Over the past 28 years, Full Sail Real World Education has built a reputation as one of the premier media arts colleges in the world. Throughout the entertainment industry, Full Sail graduates have made their names working on award-winning films and albums, acclaimed video games and design projects, live productions, and more.

From the elaborate classrooms, to eight sound studios, decked out hallways, onset filming locations for studio production movies, avid editors, server farms, real time motion capture gaming facilities it was quite an experience.

It does have a lot of opportunity for the students as far as connections with the industry, but for me, I feel that I more opportunity to network and focus specialties here in the Digital Media and CS Department at UCF due to the vast majority of students that go here. So next time you readers are in the Orlando area, it is definitely a site worth checking out whether you are interested in going to the school or not.

Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves!

To wrap up this week in shooting the Sydney White film [Week 1, Week 2], they shot most of the sorority scene. Therefore, I didn’t do any of the filming, just watching. 🙂

I will shoot the fraternity scene next week in the old SAE house and outside the Recreation and Wellness Center. This opportunity is an amazing experience for me, it is inspiring myself to incorporate my talents into the film industry, even though in some sense it is somewhat of a dieing medium.

I guess the producers and executive board try to keep everything hush hush, because a lot of people, including the cast, do not know what is going most of the time. I find it hilarious because it is a lot of hurry up and wait. But nonetheless, I will keep you guys posted with all of the Hollywood status. Haha. Thanks to Nikki for the inside pictures.

[UPDATE] – Added more photos thanks to Hilda Perez from the Orlando Sentinel. You can read the full article article here.

For those who don’t know, I am actively involved in the Digital Media Podcast on campus, I am the technology host personality and content manager.

When the podcast was established in early 2005, it was officially declared by Apple as the “The First University Podcast” and started off as a fun Independent Study Project. Now, the team has gained many listeners after being mentioned on the front page of the iTunes Podcast website and started gaining international recognition.

Today, the whole gang (Melissa, David, Nick and I) recorded Episode #29 in the DM building. I am very happy about creating a new segment called “The Web Corner” where Melissa and I covered a great overview of new and chic online services for website optimization and publicizing.

Subscribe to the feed through iTunes and check out new episodes every Thursday night!

I have my hands on 15 beta invites for the exclusive Virb.com, the up and coming social network that combines music, blogging, videos and photos (some say to be the new myspace). It’s made by the same developers from PureVolume which is the fastest-growing music community.

The first fifteen members who comment with a valid email address will receive one. I would love to give out the invites to people that are actually very interested and will use this invite to the fullest potential.

And just to make it interesting… you MUST include a creative way of saying what you would do for the invite, keep it clean. EX: Spend a full day with the raging feminists… Oh shame on me… Act fast!

New Network, New Day, New Clients

I recently came across a new networking site called LinkedIn, thanks to the president of the Collegiate Entrepreneurship Organization (formerly known as the Student Entrepreneur Society), in which I am actively involved in on campus. From what I can tell it is a great social networking site to organize many contacts and businesses that can help recommend or find new businesses. On the financial aspect, this service is very successful in gaining help and support from Venture Capitalists and Angel investors.

Professional social network LinkedIn will announce a previously rumored $12.8 million round of financing on Monday, led by Bessemer and the European Founders Fund. The company, which has been profitable since March 2006, has raised $13.4 million in two previous rounds of financing, bringing the total to more than $26 million.

The company had something north of $10 million in revenue in 2006, and says they’ll do substantially more than that in 2007. The company is continuing to grow and hit financial success. LinkedIn has 70 employees, up from 45 a year ago. They claim 9 million worldwide users, and are adding 100,000 or so new users per week. Thanks to TechCrunch.com

Through networking, I came across an amazing and interesting business parter who has a lucrative company called “Wealth 411” involved with financial advising and investing. She presented me with a portfolio of styles and colors needed to create a professional, bold and simplistic business card and logo for her self-made company. We are both very happy with the final result, I can definitely see this on a corporate billboard or promotional media.

I am in love with meeting new people and establishing a business bond, because I always think you never know who you will meet that can immensely benefit your future.

On a side note to the readers, can someone recommend a quality printer who can print non-traditional business cards, such as rounded corners or transparent/translucent cards or even possibly metal like Woz. Haha, okay that is too intense. I would really appreciate it! Thanks again to all my new subscribers. 🙂

[Update] You can buy metal, yes metal, business cards from this site. For $1.80 each (at 500), it would definitely be a way to impress your clients!

Because I just can’t keep still, I was offered a spot thanks to my casting director in the role of a new Subaru Commercial. I just got finished with shooting a long day. At 7am this morning I met up with the producer of the commercial in downtown Orlando on the roof of a parking garage. It was an amazing place to shoot from a photographic standpoint because we were in the heart of the city with all of the buildings surrounding the shot.

Along with a few kids and adults we were all told to get out of the car in the commercial and play instruments. Some played guitar, flute, violin, while I played the trumpet. I got out of he car and danced a little bit playing to the music of “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” by the Beatles. I can tell it is going to be a very fun and happy commercial, I am very excited to see it. When I receive the initial copy of it in the mail, I will be sure to post it up!

Shooting with the Stars Day III

Today, we filmed another 12 hour day for many scenes where I was in a classroom and outside the Southern Atlantic University (fake college in movie). After hair and makeup, the wardrobe department gave me the Gamma Phi Alpha fraternity shirt and were placed on scene with the “seven dorks” that play the main role in the movie. I met the star of “Freaks and Geeks” and “Not another teen movie” Samm Levine. He is just as hilarious as he is on film as he is in real life, that was very exciting.

On the down time, I asked talked to Sara Paxton about how she got started in the career. She said that she started being extras in movies and in small commercials and then she aquired an agent and now she lives in Las Angeles working her way up to get roles. I also asked Samm “So do you ever Google or IMDB yourself and see what comes up?” He laughed and said when “I first started out I used to do that, but not really anymore… I don’t even think of it anymore, it is my job…”

The tall and lengthy guy in the pictures is Jeremy Howard who starred in many roles on TV including “Buffy”, “Entourage” and “Men in Black II”. Danny Strong is also one of the dorks who I met on stage was in many episodes of “Gilmore Girls”.

I love learning about the industry, watching the immense work that goes behind the scenes with the crew and the whole process from start to finish. It took 8 hours of filming for every one minute scene on a movie on average. Holy crap! They made us redue each scene at least 10 times for editing and angle purposes. Also, everyone had to make sure that they were doing the exact same motion everytime, I guess it is easier than I thought to remember the lines in a movie when you are saying the same sentences for hours.

I go back next week to film more in the fraternity house, it looks like a huge studio production. I cannot wait to see it in films! Keep posted!
