Team

Worked under Micah Alpern (Director of Design, Social Search), Tom Chi (Sr. Director of User Experience), and Larry Cornett (VP of UED) with fellow designers, prototypers, project managers, marketers, usability researchers and users to determine user needs and implement user interface and interaction design feature innovations and improvements.

Projects

Created the design and usability of the SearchMonkey ecosystem to developers, publishers and consumers with the redesign of the SearchMonkey Gallery and Enhanced Results.

Constructed the interaction and visual design on dozens of third party applications including Yelp, LinkedIn, Myspace, Facebook, IMDB and more. Developed the concept of the first third party authenticated enhanced results to display additional social networking data to the SERP.

Revamped the SearchMonkey DevTool flow, wireframe, mocks and specs to collect rich structured semantic markup and give the user power to change the enhanced result presentation.

Founded the Open Vertical Search project and team – suggest technology placed inside the search assist layer to present rich structured data, user-defined actions and fast direct navigational searches.

Methods

Used usability/rolling studies, testing, wireframes, flow diagrams, sitemaps, contextual analysis, data gathering, data visualization, eye tracking studies, presentation, and project management skills.

Documented and enforced best practices across all of the top verticals under a unified ONE network platform to apply consistent design and supported reasoning with existing ongoing research.

Tasks

Creating visual and information design solutions based on User Centered Design principles, “Look and feel,” of public/private properties

Adhere to brand identity, logo design and graphic standards guidelines

Determining content and functional requirement

Defining site navigation and scope, user orientation strategies and specific site content recommendations

Leading the development of all visual and interactive design elements, including page layouts, site navigation and information architecture

Copy writing and editing

Site construction and front end programming for testing prototypes, including XHTML, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript

Browser compatibility and cross platform testing, and implementation

Documenting User Experience and technical requirements and site assessment

Understanding User Experience, User Centered Design and usability standards and practices and W3C recommendations and specifications for valid markup

Collaborate with team to define the User Experience strategy and design a usable, useful and compelling Web site experience

Provide timelines, estimates, and status for design project milestones

Result

SearchMonkey increased search result interactivity up to 15% in 2008 and growing.
